DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF KENYAN NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS PRINCIPALS AND COLLEGES

Roles of the Principle in Modern Era

  1. Be a lead educator and administrator in the institution;
  2. Teach subjects of specialization;
  3. Manage and implement institutional curriculum;
  4. Should be at Job Group “N” and above;
  5. Administer teaching functions in the institution including the evaluation of curriculum delivery;
  6. Be responsible for education policy and professional practice at the institutional level including maintenance of the teaching standards;
  7. Procure goods and services within the public procurement guidelines for institutional use;
  8. Be the custodian of the records of the institution;
  9. Be Secretary to the Board of Management (BoM) and ensure execution of the decision of the BoM and diligent utilization of institutional resources;
  10. Be responsible for the resource mobilization, project planning, administration and management of human resource;
  11. Ensure maintenance of high standards of discipline by both staff and students;
  12. Ensure compliance to the statutory requirements and other relevant laws related to employment;
  13. Be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a safe and conducive environment for learners.
  14. Be conversant with relevant articles in the constitution including articles 6(3), 10, 47(1 and 2), 201, 232(1and2), and other laws and regulations that relate to education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  2. Be in possession of Bachelor of Education Degree (B.E.D) or Bachelors
  3. Degree and Post Graduate Degree in Education (PGDE) from a university recognized in Kenya;
  4. Have at least 10 years’ experience as a Principal of a Post Primary Institution;
  5. Proven track record of performance;
  6. Must have maintained a clean record of service;
  7. Must satisfy the requirement of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution;
  8. Be computer literate.

NB: Masters Degree and Strategic Leadership Programme Course will be an added advantage
